A: You can apply, but you have to submit documents showing your status as an on-post employee and permission of release if you get admission. International students cannot work at the same time and also this scholarship program is only offered to full-time postgraduate students.

Q: I’m now studying in China and will graduate in July of 2020. Can I apply for this scholarship program?

A: Sorry, you can’t apply this year. Applicants must not be a registered student in Chinese universities at the time of application, but if having graduated from Chinese universities before July 2020 they can apply. You are welcome to apply next year.

Q: I’m now in the last year of my program (not in China) and will graduate soon. Can I apply?

A: You can apply as long as you can provide a Pre-graduation Certificate to ensure that you will complete your study and obtain official degree certificate by July of 2020.

Q: I graduated recently (not from China) and waiting for the official degree certificate. Can I apply?

A: You can apply as long as you can obtain official degree certificate by July of 2020.

Q: I’m now studying for master (or doctoral) degree. Can I apply for transferring to your university under this scholarship program?

A: No, you don’t. We don’t charge any application fees for this scholarship program.

Q: If I can’t get pre-acceptance from one of USTC professors, how should I proceed with my application?

A: We encourage you to contact professors in related research field (professors’ profile: http://en.ustc.edu.cn/2011/0530/c5379a50154/page.htm ) to get pre-acceptance. Fully communication between professors and applicants before admission has very positive influence for future study and research. However if you really can’t get pre-acceptance, you still can submit application before the deadline.

Q: If I can get pre-acceptance from one of USTC professors, how much chance is there for me to get final admission?

A: We’re not able to tell how much chance. Besides acceptance by professor, the applications will also be reviewed by departments and university selection committee. Number of scholarship places is limited. However, fully communication between professors and applicants before admission has very positive influence for future study and research.

A: Most of the doctoral degree programs can be conducted in English, while so far only several master degree programs in the field of management, business administration and public administration are conducted in English, but we strongly suggest you confirm the medium language of the program with professors and departments.

Q: In the CSC scholarship application system, I can’t find the program which is listed on your website. What should I do?

A: You can choose in the CSC scholarship application system a program close to the one on our website and in our application system choose the exact program from the list.

Q: I found an interesting program in the CSC scholarship application system, but I can’t find it in the list of programs on your website. What should I do?

A: CSC scholarship application system is open to all applicants with different target universities, so it lists all the programs offered in all Chinese universities, while some of them are not offered in USTC. Please refer to the list of programs offered in USTC on our website.

Q: Where can I get information for a specific program, like courses, credits, requirements, etc.?

A: It’s ok if you don’t have passport yet at the time of application, but you should get one as soon as possible, because if you get admission, the passport information will be required for making admission documents.

Q: My passport will expire soon. Can I still use it to apply for this scholarship program?

A: The passport you used for application should still be valid for one more year, because if you get admission, the passport information will be required for making admission documents and applying for visa in August.

Q: What should I submit for “Photocopy of degree certificate and academic transcript notarized by Ministry of Education or equivalent authority”?

A: You have to get the photocopy of your original degree certificate and transcripts to be notarized Ministry of Education or equivalent authority, like HEC.

A: Public hospital would be a good choice. For private hospital, we suggest you to confirm with Chinese embassy to see whether it is recognized.

Q: I know Chinese well and want to apply for a program taught in Chinese, but I don’t have the HSK certificate. What should I do?

A: Applicants who apply for master’s degree programs instructed in Chinese must have HSK4. Otherwise, they cannot apply.

Q: I know English well and want to apply for a program taught in English, but I don’t have TOFEL or IELTS result. What should I do?

A: You are suggested to request teachers in your previous studying university and are familiar with your academic performance to provide you with recommendation/reference letters. Recommendation letters provided by professor, researcher, vice professor, assistant professor are all acceptable.

A: While applying online in the USTC admission system, you will be asked to add your referees' email address. After it is added successfully, you can click "send an email to referee" and then he/she will receive an email and upload the scanned reference letter (signed, dated and on official headed paper with contact phone number and email address) according to the instructions in the email.

Q3: What should I do if my referee did not receive email about uploading reference letters?

Q: Is there any other scholarship available in your university? Can I apply for more than one scholarship?

A: We also have ANSO Scholarship Program for doctoral degree study and USTC Fellowship for postgraduate study (http://isa.ustc.edu.cn). Theoretically you can apply for more than one scholarship program to our university, but if you do, please let us know, and also please be noted that it does not mean that you will definitely get admission at least by one scholarship program.

A: Theoretically you can apply for more than one university for this scholarship, but if more than one university submit your name to CSC, then it is CSC who has the right to decide which university you will be admitted to, and you can’t change the decision. If you want to change the university, your scholarship will be cancelled.

Q: Some agencies or persons say that they have cooperation with USTC on admissions of international students. Should I trust them?

A: USTC does not authorize any agency or person on the admission affairs. We accept applications directly from students.

A: If your online application can’t be made successfully several times, please check whether you open it with the appropriate browser. The supporting browsers for this system could be IE or Google Chrome.

Q: What to do if I cannot find my major in the first/second level discipline?

A: All the disciplines which can be provided with degrees from USTC are included in the first/second level discipline list on the online application system. If you cannot find your major on the list, you need to select a first/second level discipline that is most closely related to your major and while studying in USTC, you will study the first/second level discipline you selected on the system.

Q: If my score is not in the form of centesimal system, how to fill it? A: Please provide your overall GPA in centesimal system (eg. 82/100). If you do not know how to convert it, please provide your overall GPA in the following format: 2.61/4 or 3.15/5.

Q: Is there an examination or interview conducted after the submission of application?

A: Normally, the application documents are reviewed for the admission result, but for some schools/departments, a writing test or interview may be conducted after the documents review. You will be further notified about the test and interview if necessary.

A: 1. All the complete applications will be reviewed by International College for the first round to check mainly the eligibility. 2. Applications passed in the first round will be reviewed by professors, departments and schools for the second round to check mainly academic background, research capability and intended research field. 3. Applications passed the second round will be reviewed by USTC selection committee to finalize the list of nominated candidates and waiting list and submit to CSC in May. 4. CSC and Ministry of Education will review the lists and application documents and finalize the list of awardees in July.

A: You can check the status of your application in this online application system. The final list of awardees will be announced on our website in July.

Q: What does it mean for someone being selected for waiting list? How much chance is there for someone on waiting list to get scholarship?

A: Candidates on the waiting list will have chance to get scholarship in case someone on the list of nominated candidates gives up the scholarship or Ministry of Education decides to give USTC more scholarship places after seeing the whole application situation of the year of all universities, but we’re not able to tell how much chance.

A: We will send to you by post the admission documents after we receive the result from CSC, usually in late July or August.

A: After receiving admission documents, you should apply for student visa as soon as possible in Chinese Embassy/Consulate and get prepared for coming.

Q: If I don’t get admission with this scholarship, can I apply for admission as a self-financed student?

A: Yes, you can send us an email about your application for self-financed program if you don’t get scholarship admission.
