First USTC World Badminton Championship |

Great ideas originate from fresh minds and playing physical sports
can keep one's mind healthy and fresh. Badminton as one of the physical sports,
improves coordination, flexibility and balanced health. It also improves
endurance, enhances fight against obesity, reduces stress and anxiety.
Badminton is a good source and sport activity for promoting better
communication between foreign students and Chinese students. In this regard,
First USTC World Badminton Championship was organized by Foreign Students Association
with the cooperation of Office of International Cooperation on 10th December
2016 at the Badminton Hall East Campus USTC.

This Championship was composed of 11 games and decided that who wins 6 games would be declared as a Champion, including four men's singles, five men's doubles and two mixed doubles. Each game consisted of three sets, and each set was of 21 points. Chinese students after layers of selection select their best team of 12 players who mainly played for USTC badminton team against the team of Foreign students. In the initial of men's singles competition, the Chinese team was leading by winning three games out of four games. The winning players in the men’s single games were Fu Sicheng, Gong Tao, Xie Haohuan. Men's doubles games were very surprising and interesting. Foreign students while taking advantage of their heights showed a strong resistance and courage against Chinese team and won four games out of five games in the men's doubles game. |

The men's doubles game ended with 5 points for foreign students and 4 points for Chinese team. Foreign student team was lacking female players in mixed doubles, so they borrowed female players from USTC team. Last mixed doubles game can be described as the mars hitting the earth. The first two sets were resulted as1 to 1 draw, key tiebreaker, transnational combination way to lead 17:13, stride forward singing militant songs, as everyone thinks that whoever win this game will win the final game. It was very critical moment for teams. Gong Tao and Zhang Liqin teeth were tightly closed to withstand the pressure, finally Chinese team successfully won the game by 21:19. Chinese team used their skills and full energy to win two mixed doubles games thereby wining the champion trophy and won both mix doubles brilliantly. |

At the end of the game, the Chinese team scored a total of 6:5. This competition helped to create a spirit of friendship, cooperation and close bonding between the Chinese students of our school and foreign students. It also showed the real sense of Pak-Sino friendship, and China friendship with other countries. The game was also worth viewing for the majority of badminton lovers, providing them happier and joyful moments. It can be concluded that the president of Foreign Students Association, Khan Munir Ullah, international students Ali Sarmad and Adnan Khalil, the international students office USTC and the Chinese students Gong Tao, Zhang Chi's are worth praising for their concerted initiatives in organizing such a pleasant activity. Thanks to all of them and we hope that the audience will see more interesting games in the future. |
