About Finding Supervisor
Q1: If I contacted with lots of supervisor but got no
reply, what should I do?
A:
Some supervisors will check the application material of applicants all together
by February or beginning of March, if you get no reply, you can just finish
your fellowship application and admission application first. USTC will help to
send your file (Only if it is complete for both online application of
Fellowship and USTC admission) to professors in relating fields.
Q2: How will USTC help to find supervisors?
A:
the application form and documents of applicants whose online application for
both Fellowship and USTC admission are complete will be downloaded and sent to
relating schools and professors. Applicants will be informed through email of
the further results.
Q3: What should I write in the email send to supervisors?
A:
State clearly in your email, your name, country, university with its academic
status, and your academic achievement, with attachments of your CV and research
proposal. Further emails afterwards can include certificates, publications,
awards, and other documents upon requests from the professor.
Q4: What should be avoided in contacting supervisors?
A:
Do not send emails to many professors. To target two or three professors whose
research field is much similar to yours. Sending group emails should be
avoided, as it can be easily spammed and the professor may ignore you further
contact. Send one email message to one professor each time.
APPLICATION
1. Who can apply?
Q: I’m now
working in China. Can I apply for this scholarship program?
A: You can apply, but you have
to submit documents showing your status as an on-post employee and permission
of release if you get admission. International students cannot work at the same
time and also this scholarship program is only offered to full-time
postgraduate students.
Q: I’m now
studying in China and will graduate in July of 2019. Can I apply for this
scholarship program?
A: If you are currently
pursuing master study and will graduate by July, 2019, you can apply for this
scholarship. Applicants currently pursuing doctoral degrees
at any university/institution in China are NOT eligible for this fellowship.
Q: I’m now in
the last year of my program (not in China) and will graduate soon. Can I apply?
A: You can apply as long as you
can provide a Pre-graduation Certificate to ensure that you will complete your
study and obtain official degree certificate by July of 2019.
Q: I graduated
recently (not from China) and waiting for the official degree certificate. Can
I apply?
A: You can apply as long as you
can obtain official degree certificate by July of 2019.

How to apply?
Q: Do I need to pay any application fees?
A:
No, you don’t. We don’t charge any application fees for this scholarship
program.
Q: Can I apply without an accepting supervisor?
A:
No, you can’t. Applicants for this scholarship program must find a host supervisor.
Q: Can I contact two host supervisor simultaneously?
A: One
applicant can only submit one application package to the Fellowship Office.
Once the Fellowship Office received two application package of the same
applicant, the applicant must annul one of the two applications.
Q: If I can’t get pre-acceptance from one of USTC
professors, how should I proceed with my application?
A:
We encourage you to contact professors in related research field (professors’
profile:http://en.ustc.edu.cn/faculty/201105/t20110530_112483.html )
to get pre-acceptance. Fully communication between professors and applicants
before admission has very positive influence for future study and
research.
Q: If I can get pre-acceptance from one of USTC professors,
how much chance is there for me to get final admission?
A:
We’re not able to tell how much chance. Besides acceptance by professor, the
applications will also be reviewed by departments and university selection
committee. Number of scholarship places is limited. However, fully
communication between professors and applicants before admission has very
positive influence for future study and research.
Q: How can I find which program is taught in English?
A:
Most of the doctoral degree programs can be conducted in English, while so far
only several master degree programs in the field of management, business
administration and public administration are conducted in English, but we
strongly suggest you confirm the medium language of the program with professors
and departments.

Q: My passport will expire soon. Can I still use it to
apply for this scholarship program?
A:
The passport you used for application should still be valid for one more year,
because if you get admission, the passport information will be required for
making admission documents and applying for visa in August.
Q: What should I submit for “Photocopy of degree
certificate and academic transcript notarized by Ministry of Education or
equivalent authority”?
A:
You have to get the photocopy of your original degree certificate and transcripts
to be notarized Ministry of Education or equivalent authority, like HEC.
Q: Where should I get physical examination?
A:
Public hospital would be a good choice. For private hospital, we suggest you to
confirm with Chinese embassy to see whether it is recognized.
Q: I know English well and want to apply for a program
taught in English, but I don’t have TOFEL or IELTS result. What should I do?
A:
You have to submit other documents as a proof of your English proficiency.
ADMISSION PROCEDURE
Q: Is there an examination or interview
conducted after the submission of application?
A: Normally, the application documents are reviewed for the
admission result, but for some schools/departments, a writing test or
interview may be conducted after the documents review. You will be further
notified about the test and interview if necessary.
Q: How will you select applications?
A: 1. All the complete applications will be reviewed by Office
of International Cooperation for the first round to check mainly the eligibility.
2. Applications passed in the first round will be reviewed by professors,
departments and schools for the second round to check mainly academic
background, research capability and intended research field. 3. Applications
passed the second round will be reviewed by USTC selection committee to
finalize the list of nominated candidates and waiting list and submit to TWAS
in May. 4. TWAS will review the lists and application documents and finalize
the list of awardees in July.
Q: When and where can I know the result?
A: You can check the status of your application in this online
application system. The final list of awardees will be announced on our
website in July.
Q: What should I do if I receive admission
documents?
A: After receiving admission documents, you should apply for
student visa as soon as possible in Chinese Embassy/Consulate and get
prepared for coming.
Q: If I get admission, when will the semester
start?
A: It will start on Sept.1, 2019.
Q: If I don’t get admission with this scholarship,
can I apply for admission as a self-financed student?
A: Yes, you can send us an email about your application for
self-financed program if you don’t get scholarship admission.
