After a long waited critical evaluation by the experts from the China Scholarship Council, the final list of the 2016/2017 “Chinese Government Outstanding International Student Scholarship” set up by the Ministry of Education of China has been released recently. All of the three international students nominated by USTC have been awarded with this prestigious scholarship.
The three international students are:
Abhishek Narayan Mondal, from India, Doctoral Candidate in School of Chemistry and Materials Science (Supervisor: Professor Tongwen Xu);
Munir Ullah Khan, from Pakistan, Doctoral Candidate in School of Chemistry and Materials Science (Supervisor: Professor Jie Zeng);
Yen Yat, from Cambodia, Doctoral Candidate in School of Public Affairs (Supervisor: Professor Yumin Shi).
There are only 147 seats available for the “Chinese Government Outstanding International Student Scholarship” this year for all international students studying in the second year or above at the 269 universities under Chinese Government Scholarship, to compete. Each university can recommend a maximum of 3 international students for this highly competitive scholarship. Further their academic performance, daily behaviors, scientific breakthroughs and achievements have been thoroughly investigated by the experts from China Scholarship Council before awarding them the scholarship.
Base on the principle of “fair, impartial and open”, after international students submitted application, USTC experts and professors from the relevant field evaluated all the applications carefully and critically according to their academic scores, numbers and qualities of their published academic papers and other performance at school and USTC Reviewing Committee finalized the list of students to be recommended. It is really inspiring that all the three students recommended by USTC got this valuable scholarship out of the fierce competition, and each of them will receive a monetary award of RMB 30000 as well.
USTC has been working hard on publicity and recruitment of more and more excellent international students, and keeping focus on high-class cultivation and detailed management. This winning of scholarship has set an excellent example for all international students in USTC and will motivate them positively on working harder and harder towards their goals, as well as improve a better academic atmosphere.
