Han Lin, the Student of Our University, Ranked the Fifth in the First National Foreign Student Speech Contest |

To celebrate the 40th
anniversary of the “Reform and Opening,” a
series of activities were held in Chengdu, Sichuan province on October 19th,
2018. Sixteen contestants from fifteen universities across the country,
participated in the final contest of the first foreign student speech contest
"Study in China," each of them
shared the unique story of their studies
and life in China.
Anastasiia
Popelnukha, a Ukrainian citizen, a Ph.D.
student of Management, started her speech by
revealing her feelings about being a Chinese wife
and described the differences in
expressing love between Chinese and Western cultures. In her speech, Han Lin
also stated that the University of
Science and Technology of China had given her a platform for accomplishing her
“scholar dream.” She has also added that the warmth and friendliness of the
Chinese had given her power in the pursuit of her dream. The contest had three
awards: one top prize, two second prizes,
and three third prizes. Han Lin's
outstanding performance has won the unanimous praise of the on-site judges, and she was ranked fifth among fifteen
contestants, she was awarded the third
prize of the contest.

Han Lin had studied Chinese at Anhui University for two years. She was admitted to USTC for the Master's program in 2014. After finishing her Master's program in 2017, she chose to pursue her doctoral degree at USTC. Han Lin has hosted and participated in many international cultural activities; she has also attended many different Chinese speech contests. She has accumulated a rich stage experience. |

Han Lin's outstanding performance and high achievement are mainly due to the diversification and comprehensiveness of our school's foreign students cultivation program. Our school has always placed great importance to the cultivation of friendship between Chinese and foreigners. The international office of USTC often organizes various cultural exchanges to convey the “Chinese dream ”to foreign students and to help them to better understand Chinese culture and the achievements of China's development. In "Study in China" foreign student speech contest, Han Lin has represented Anhui province, as she was chosen the best in the preliminary round, in the final contest she has also received good results. |

The speech contest was sponsored by the Chinese Association of Higher Education and the Chinese Association of Higher Education for the Education and Management of Foreign Students, co-sponsored by the Sichuan Provincial Education Department, Shanghai Foreign Student Education Research Association and the Chinese Medicine Promotion Exhibition.
The current contest has created a platform for overseas students to share their stories and feelings about China, which plays a vital role in building the brand of "study in China."
