The summer in the year 2020 came with
endless rain. When the dazzling sunshine finally took over USTC campus, a group
of graduating foreign students were about to say goodbye to USTC. How time
flies! These students came to USTC several years ago with limited knowledge of
China and USTC, now they just finished their academic journey and set out for a
brand-new future. Looking back to the old days, what are they thinking of? Are
they still lingering on the cherry blossom in spring at USTC? Do they miss the
smiles of their teachers and classmates? Here we invited some graduating
international students to express their feelings about graduation. Let’s have a
look.

“I am Frayal Farooq from Pakistan, a student at the School of Information Science and Technology. The most challenging part of my biomedical engineering journey was to repeat the same experiments many times, but I learned from failures and achievements. I want to share a famous and motivating quote of Charles Kettering: 99% of success is built on failure.
It's a very proud moment for me because all the hard work has paid off. These graduation photos captured the feelings of that happiest moment that will please my heart tomorrow. I am glad to be part of one of the best universities globally and to get the opportunity to explore myself and talent. I wish USTC best of luck for its future achievements and researches in all educational fields.”

“My name is Obama Oyana Salvador, I am from Equatorial Guinea, from the School of Information Sciences, on Automation Department. My undergraduate studies are over, but there is still a long way to go. Looking back, I vaguely see myself at the beginning of four years ago. How happy and proud I can be. Your future is connected to you. I am grateful to USTC for providing me with a top-notch university education, I have the courage to innovate, and not to fear difficulties in the path of science.
Four years passed and my graduation was imminent. I thank my parents for their care and encouragement so that I can dedicate myself to my studies. Thanks to the Chinese government, the Office of International Students (ISO) on the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) for giving me a great opportunity to study at USTC and receive one of the best scientific trainings in the field of automation and control engineering. I also thank my department teachers 吴刚, 王永, 郑志刚, 李俊 and other teachers who taught me knowledge. Not only did they transmit professional knowledge to me, but they also taught me to have a rigorous scientific attitude and perseverance in the scientific nature. I am infinitely grateful to USTC, thank you very much!!!”

“I am Salman Khalid from Pakistan. I am graduating from the Department of Thermal science and energy engineering, School of Engineering Sciences, USTC. Like all of you, I am also graduating from USTC in 2020, and I did not expect my university's last few months to end like this — being at my apartment (due to the pandemic). Thanks to the USTC management team for taking care of us and not even a single COVID-19 case is confirmed on campus. I am thankful to USTC for admitting us to the top university of China, and also for allowing us to learn about Chinese culture. I really enjoyed my time in Hefei, met a lot of friendly people, and of course, it will always be close to my heart. I wish USTC to be the best in every field. I am proud to be a USTC graduate.” |
