“Experiencing
China—Anhui” activity was held successfully in Qimen county and Wuhu city of Anhui
province on September 25 and 26. The activity is sponsored by China Scholarship
Council (CSC) and organized by the University of Science and Technology of
China(USTC).
In order to help international students of Chinese
Government Scholarship enhance their understanding on the Chinese history,
culture and the achievements of China’s reform and opening up, increase their
sense of honor as a awardee of Chinese Government Scholarship and motivate them
to study hard, CSC has launched “Experiencing China” serial activities for
Chinese Government Scholarship international students throughout China since
2015. This year in Anhui Province, 78 Chinese Government Scholarship
international students from five universities in Anhui Province - University of
Science and Technology of China, Hefei University of Technology, Anhui
University, Anhui Agricultural University, and Anhui Medical University participated
in the activity to trace the history of Qimen black tea and explore the future
of Chery Automobile. They are from 27 different countries through Asia, Africa,
Europe, and America.
First Stop: from Tea Garden to Tea Museum
The
mountain wind sent a burst of tea fragrance. “Experiencing China-Anhui”
activity began with picking tea leaves in the Ecological Tea Garden in Qimen
county.
Under
the guidance of the staff, students fastened the tea basket on their waist, climbed
up the tea mountain and picked the tea leaves on-site, which provided them a
special chance to experience the life of a “Huizhou tea picker”.
"It’s
my first time to be in Qimen. The air here is fresh and the scenery is
beautiful. I came here to pick tea leaves in the original ecological tea garden
and learnt about the tea culture. I have learned a lot." The student Mamadou
from Mali said, “only after I came here, I got to know that the black tea was also
made from green tea leaves!” "We also have tea picking in Bangladesh.
However, the tea basket is larger than this, which is carried on the back in
our country, while here which is tied on the waist" said Hossain, a
student from Bangladesh.

Then, the students came to the Qihong Museum located in Xiangyuan Qihong Industrial Cultural Expo Park, to trace the history of Qimen black tea. Qihong Museum is the first professional museum of Qimen black tea in China. It is a cultural exhibition center for black tea, which has integrated with the collection, research, social education and cultural communication of tea culture. It is also a professional place for systematical collection of tea cultural relics and tea literature materials and a key base for tea culture research. Students walked through exhibition halls of Millennium leaf, Magical tea environment, Fine workmanship, Chance for development, Be known all over the world, and Red Dreams, and got to know systematically the source of creation, production secret, technology, predecessors, historical glory, centennial legend and industrial development of the world-famous Qimen black tea.
“Here, I learned about the development history and craft techniques of Qimen black tea, as well as the culture of Huizhou, which left a deep impression on me.” said Thai student Ploymanee Piriyajarukul.
After enjoying the rich history and culture of Qimen black tea, the students came to the experiencing hall and learned how to make a cup of tea in a typical Chinese way through preparing tea ware, warming the cups and pot, putting tea into tea pot, washing tea, etc. Students drank the tea made by themselves in the hall full of the unique fragrance of Qimen black tea, which makes them more love and understand the tea culture.

Second Stop: Explore the Future of Chery Automobile
On September 26, students came to Wuhu City to visit the assembly workshop, experiment center and R&D center of Chery Automobile Co.,Ltd, China’s best self-owned brand automobile company (2016), and attend the discussion with the relevant managers of the company, to perceive engineers’ perseverance in the integration and perfection of science and art, and learn the latest achievements of Cherry Automobile Co.
In the third assembly workshop, students watched the main body of one car slowly moving on the conveyor belt, then the corresponding parts installing on the car body, as well as the front and rear covers, the space of the door and body being adjusted, inspection of chassis and test in rain and so on, until the car assembly finished. “Everything is methodical and beautiful!” said Ashenafi, an international student from Ethiopia, majoring in vehicle engineering for both undergraduate and master program. In the workshop, he looked at the processes of the production line, followed the guide and listened carefully. "I feel that the visiting time is too short, not enough. But this place is too wonderful to make me feel that no matter how long the visiting time is, it is still not enough!" Ashenafi said with a smile.
After that, the students came to the Crash Safety Engineering Laboratory, one of the key laboratories of Chery Test Technology Center. After seeing the expensive equipment in the laboratory and listening to the introduction from the guide, students really felt Chery’s determination to improve and guarantee the quality of the car, the concept of winning by technology and the persistence on independent innovation.

“Before I came to study at USTC, I was interested in working in a car company. I am very happy that I have this opportunity to visit and study at Chery. It will greatly help my future study and work.” international student from Nigeria Owolabi Oladejo Charles said, " Actually, to experience today's China and understand the progressing Anhui is the motive force for me to work hard to come to China for further study. Because China's attraction to me is not only her profound cultural heritage, but also the speed of development, and more importantly her infinite future. I am also looking forward that me and other international students will have another opportunity to participate in such meaningful activities, to perceive more about China and to understand more about the history, culture and technology development of Anhui Province."
